It was a crisp night, the sky clear overhead. The stars filling the sky and a full moon over the rooftops. Down the alley way next to a tavern a cats hiss could be heard as if something was in the shadows, something threatening, dark and sinister, but it soon dashed out and into the open causing a women to jump out of her skin as she made her way home with a basket. It ran down round the back of a house and disappeared. Back down the alley something, or someone was coming out of the darkness. The figure was tall and slender and dark. A head poked round the corner on the Tavern and looked round to make sure it was clear to go, but stopped when he saw the women. He stayed there in the spot watching her return home. He then shot passed the windows of the Tavern hoping no one was there to spot his whereabouts.

Virgil walked through the dark alley ways, thinking only of how dark it was. He knew he wasn't in a good part of the town. He knew he should have left the tavern sooner. He pulled out his sword from his sheath. And twirled it in his hands. He kept his head on a swivel, hoping not to encounter anyone. It was a beautiful night though, to bad he was to preoccupied to notice. He could see a small figure coming to wards him. He steady his sword in that direction, prepared for any challenge. A small pulse began to sound through him, one that he knew warriors got, just before a battle.
Out of the darkness walked a small grey dog. Virgil lowered his sword. He watched the dog come to wards him, he felt relieved, he wasn't in the state of mind to fight at the moment. He shifted his sword to his left hand as he bent down to pet the dog. He had to smile, back on the farm they had a small dog. His father had brought it home one night. And he woke Virgil and his siblings. They were thrilled. But he warned them not to wake their mother, Meg. She was grouchy when woken early. They would show her when she woke on her own time. Virgil smiled at the thought of his father. He had gotten past the sadness, and now was found of the wonderful memories he had. The dog jumped up and licked Virgil. "Down Boy." Vigil said in a small laugh.

He stopped and peered through the darkness after he heard a voice and a low bark from a dog. Someone was around and he didn't really want to get caught with the money he'd stollen from a couple of houses in the area. He couldn't see any sign of life though so he carefully carried on, down another alley, he looked over his shoulder and began to run, knowing he was coming close the the outskirts. He turned a corner and ran down another alley. It was nearly pitch black and he had to duck, missing the low hanging cloths lines from the houses. He then heard something behind him and looked round.. Then ran straight into some one...
He fell to the ground laying on his back. He opened his eyes and looked up to the nights sky to see a figure towering over him, then felt something wet licking his face. "Yuck!" He protested as he sat up and pushed the grey dog way from him. He wiped his face where he'd been licked on his sleeve. "You mind where you're standing?"He asked the man "..not the best of spot to take a break, you know? robbers and assasins are around these parts.."

Virgil was startled by the man's voice. "Sorry Sir." Virgil extended his hand to help the man up. His father had taught him good manners. He remembered quite clearly his father teaching him how to sit up straight how to say please and thank you. He smirked as he thought of this. The grey dog seemed friendly enough to keep around for awhile. Virgil hadn't had companionship for a while. He was also thinking of Xena and Gabrielle... Gabrielle. He missed her a lot. He hoped to run into them in a while, he heard rumors of Xena's demise, but the he heard rumors of her coming once more to walk the earth. Now that sounded more like Xena. Virgil glance up wards to wards the sky the light evening breeze gave him a chill.
